Samsung sold 300 million cellphones this year so far

New Galaxy models from SamsungThe fact that Samsung was a force to reckon with in the cellphone industry is known information, but the fact that they sold 300 million phones so far this year is definitely something that has surprised the mobile industry. What’s more – there’s still a month to go.

The Korean based Samsung has been on the sales upswing for the past few years but this year (till November) they have surpassed last year’s handset sales numbers of 280 million. With the holiday season approaching Samsung may add a few more million to the 300 million already sold before it can project the full year’s numbers.

The reason Samsung was able to smash its own record was largely due to the hit smartphone models it released this year, the most prominent among them being the flagship Galaxy S series smartphones. Samsung has also taken care to not side with only one particular mobile operating system and has been releasing models with Android as well and Windows Phone both of which are the toast of the town. While Windows Phone is gaining popularity slowly but surely, Android already has more than 50% of the market share. A proof of that strategy being that the Galaxy S series sold over 10 million handsets in just five months.

All in all, great smartphones coupled with great mobile operating systems and an aggressive marketing strategy has resulted in record breaking sales figures for Samsung. With these numbers Samsung can truly say that Korea is a name to reckon with in the mobile phone market.
