Windows 8 to include SkyDrive by default

SkyDrive

As the Windows 8 beta approaches more news of what one can expect in the upcoming version of Windows is emerging. The latest being that SkyDrive will now be part of the Windows 8 apps in the new Metro layout. This is great news for all the Windows users because now their storage space just increases multifold. But it’s not just about storage space, because think about the flexibility of storing data on the cloud and then being able to access it from anywhere and any Windows device – Phone, PC or tablet.

Having SkyDrive built in serves the additional benefit of other apps being able to access the SkyDrive to store files created or accessed from within that app. For example if you are using an image editing app created by a third party developer and if you want to save it on the cloud and share, then the built in SkyDrive will support such flexibility.

The developers too don’t have to worry about coding specifically for allowing the files access to SkyDrive because they just have to adhere to the Metro app development guidelines and the built in support for SkyDrive will be automatically enabled.

Like everything one the cloud this obviously poses security concerns, but Microsoft has added an additional layer of security for the remote PCs accessing a user’s SkyDrive account. So for example if you saved something on your SkyDrive and you travel to another city and want to access the files from a computer in a cyber café, then SkyDrive will send an authorization code to the registered mobile and you will be able to access it using that authorization code.
